Sporting Kansas City battled to a 1-1 draw with interstate rivals St. Louis City SC Wednesday night at Children's Mercy Park.
"Not pleased with the result, but I'm very pleased with the performance of the team tonight," said Sporting Kansas City manager Raphael Wicky. "I feel like I've seen a lot of things I want to see from my team, in terms of defending together and pressing well. We stole a lot of balls against a team who, in this league right now, is in a very good position and outplays other teams... it's a shame that out of nothing, you suddenly are 1-0 back at halftime."

Sporting KC dominated the attacking statistics, recording 18 shots compared to St. Louis CITY SC’s seven. Sporting KC also created three times as many chances and recorded three times as many touches in the opposition box.

"I think it was a really nice atmosphere, and I think it's important that we came out with very good energy," said Wicky. "That is always something we like to do, to come out here, the fans show up, then it's up to us to get out with energy."
The draw continues the stalemate in the all-time series between the rivals, with both teams now holding four wins, four losses and four draws in their 12 head-to-head matchups. Sporting KC remains at the bottom of the Western Conference and the overall MLS standings.
